I want to be able to run my own Team Fortress 2 server, however i cannot do so from my own PC, so i looked at a few websites. the cheapest i could find was 16$ a month, which far exceeds my buying limit. Is there any way to host a valve dedicated server through a cheap website host like GoDaddy or Ipage? if so that would be a way better option
Chosen Answer:
It is possible to run a game server from a pc on your local network. Check out www.no-ip.com. Typically an ISP does not like it when you run a game server over your connection, so be careful there.
Most shared hosting plans, such as godaddy don’t allow you to run a game server. I think the best option would be a VPS, which does start at around the to per month.
Another option could be to take advantage of a promotion, such as the free tier at Amazon web services. Currently, they are offering running a micro instance on EC2 for free for one year. Instances on EC2 are similar to a VPS.
aws.amazon.com
FYI, I don’t work for Amazon, but I am an aws customer.
