How to back up a joomla site locally?

I have joomla installed on a site and i want to move, which i already know how to but i want to be able to back up the site and its file on my computer if possible incase something goes wrong. How can i download my joomla site off of a server. I use iPage as a webhost, and i installed joomla through that. thanks

Akeeba backup is one solution, however, we do not use it at itoctopus, and here’s why. What if there’s something wrong with Akeeba itself? It did happen several times to us and that’s why we stopped using it altogether.

The process is explained here (including using Akeeba). If you’re not using Akeeba, then you’ll probably need some technical skills: http://www.itoctopus.com/how-to-move-your-joomla-website-to-another-server .

Look at Akeeba Backup, in my opinion the best Backup / Restore solution for Joomla. I also use it when I need to move a site from one hosting account to another one or from local to hosting or vice-versa. You just back up in one place and restore in the other. Really easy to use and free. I think there are a few tutorials on Youtube that show how to use it.
    Good luck.
