With multiple domain hosting, can you host multiple websites?

My friend and I both wish to host websites with entirely different premises and whatnot, but we’re a little strapped for cash. We’ve found that iPage offers unlimited domains, unlimited space and whatnot, and at .50 a month, it’s a good price. Since it offers multiple domains, can we host two websites on the same plan in an effort to save money?

Chosen Answer:

Yes you can, I do exactly that with ‘webhostingpad’ (see the link below)
The beauty of this unlimited hosting is that you can also add as many sub-domains as you want for free too via the CPANEL.
You need a main domain which becomes the ‘root’ of your hosting package – then you just ‘point’ other domains at a specific folder within the root.
Once you have your main domain, you will need to register other domains with a domain registration service (I use Godady and 1and1) – again see below…
So, you could have ‘mysite.com’, then add ‘site1.mysite.com’ for free, or buy the domain ‘mysite2.com’ and simply ‘point’ the DNS settings (your domain reg service will show you how) at the right nameservers for your hosting space – It’s a lot easier than it sounds…. as well as pointing the domain at your server, you ‘tell’ your server (via CPANEL) which folder on your server will hold the files for that specific domain.
Importantly, if you use the nameserver rather than the IP address, the emails will come over too, but webhostingpad also allows you to set up as many emails as you want for each domain too… you can even have email addresses for your pals and they can log in on the web and pick up their own mail on your domain…
I don’t know what the current monthly charge is for webhostingpad, but I think it is competitive with your .50…
Just a last thought, I can also set up as many WordPress or Joomla (etc…) sites as I want too, it is so simple to set up one of these CMS type sites for free, it will make you laugh…. If it sounds like I’m blown away with the unbelievable hosting plan that I have, it’s simply because I am, I really wish I had started this a lot earlier….
Just a thought….in case it leads to problems (wrong files being uploaded an suchlike) I suggest one of you buys the package and has control over the main domain, the other person can be given ‘FTP’ settings so they can upload their own files to their own designated folder – if you both have access to the root folder, it could be a bit of a nightmare….
I use a free FTP program ‘filezilla’ – you can set up an ‘FTP’ account using CPANEL, give your friend the settings and the password – then they can upload their own stuff using filezilla.
If I can help, let me know….

Yes. In most hosting schemes, Each domain is assigned a home folder. Create a home folder in your root directory, and when you add the domain, set that folder for it’s home folder.

Sure, this is done using the control panel iPage offers, it’s called Addon Domains, I use it to host 12 sites (not with iPage, but they are all alike)
You can find even better deal here: http://www.hostingphpmysql.com/ (I think it’s gonna end soon)
